Transfer Scholarships Available
The new Two-Year College Transfer Grant Program makes it easier for eligible NOVA students to pay for completing a bachelor's degree. Students who enter NOVA as first-time freshmen in Fall 2007 or later may receive up to $1000 per year when they transfer to a four-year public or private non-profit college or university in Virginia. COMMUNITY AND JUNIOR COLLEGE AND ACADEMIC TEAM Scholarships are competitive and are based on merit. Students must be nominated by the institution they are attending. Sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa. American Association of Community Colleges and USA Today. For further information check with your campus Financial Aid Information Service. Cash awards up to $2,500. Applications available in early October.
BARRY M. GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIP and EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION PROGRAM
Merit-based scholarship for outstanding sophomore level with at least a “B” G.P.A. who plan to transfer to a four-year institution. Awards for the study of mathematics and the natural sciences covers tuition, fees, books, and room and board at a senior institution for two academic years. HARRY S. TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP Merit-based scholarship for sophomore year candidates from two-year colleges for students with outstanding leadership potential who desire a career in public service. Students chosen from community colleges are eligible to receive up to $6,000 per year for the junior and senior years of undergraduate education and up to $9,000 per year for two years of graduate study. MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY and VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY – offer scholarships to transfer students.
VIRGINIA POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE - Leo A. Padis Engineering Scholarship for Virginia Community College Transfer Students. Merit-based $1,000.
VIRGINIA TRANSFER GRANTS - Full tuition to black students transferring to traditionally white public four-year colleges, and to white students transferring to Virginia’s two traditionally black public institutions. Apply to Admissions Director of Senior Institution.
VIRGINIA TUITION ASSISTANCE GRANT PROGRAM - A renewable grant up to $1500 available to Virginia residents who satisfy domiciliary requirements and attend one of the participation independent colleges or universities in Virginia. The grant is not based on income. Application required by July 31. Application available from participating institutions.
NOTE: Other colleges and universities offer academic scholarships to transfer students. Be sure to check with the financial aid office at any school, which you are considering. 8.
